About

Compassionate Communication

Compassionate Communication is based on Nonviolent Communication (NVC), a set of suggestions and tools for communicating from a place of peace in our hearts, in a compassionate way. Developed by a pyschologist who firmly believes in that human beings have a fundamentally compassionate nature, NVC is a set of suggestions for using language to help us tap into that wellspring of compassion.

Starting with an Observation that creates common ground, the NVC model progresses to identifying the Feeling being experienced that is independent of the other person. Next we identify the life-enriching universal human Need that is or isn't being met, and finally end with a Request to ourself or to another person. We find this process usually out the compassionate nature in people.

Developed by Marshall Rosenberg and administered largely through the Center for Nonviolent Communication, NVC is taught all over the world by over 200 certified trainers, as well as informal instruction by candidate trainers and supporters.

This old growth tree fell across a trail in Montgomery Grove State Park. The trail now goes right through the giant log.
